Hi, friends!

My name is Ace Schwarz (they/them/theirs)

I currently live and teach in Pennsylvania. I graduated in 2015 with a degree in Middle-Level Education with concentrations in Science and Language Arts.

In 2019, I obtained my Masters Degree in Teaching from American Public University with a concentration in Online Learning. I also have my National Geographic Certification and my iPad certification for Apple Teacher.

This is my third year teaching 6th and 7th grade science at my current school and my eight year teaching in general.

I came out as non-binary in 2018, and I go by Mx. Schwarz (pronounced “mix”) with students, parents, and staff. When I was a teacher in Washington County Public Schools, I was the only “out” non-binary teacher in my county, and I worked closely with HR and administrators to develop a transition plan for teachers and students. I am an advocate for LGBTQ+ students and teachers, and I ran Free to Be, our school’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance. I will also be helping with my new school’s GSA.

I use Instagram as a platform for this advocacy, and I create resources for teachers, parents, and administrators to help educate about LGBTQ+ issues and inclusion. I was recognized by GLSEN for this work, and I was honored to be their Educator of the Year for 2019.

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.

I’m also a massive nerd, and I absolutely LOVE Marvel, Star Wars, and anime. I attend approximately five comic cons every year, and my favorite cosplay is Hawkeye (the comic book version, not the movie version). I live with my cat, Panther, and my droid, BB8.

Thanks for getting to know me!
